Your afterthought!

I can't be your afterthought
a joy that you remember only when distraught!

A moment sought
only when others are mere nought!

I can't be
the breath you take
after so much breathing!

The word you utter
only when silence is seizing!

Not your last choice,
your lost voice,
Not your last fight
or your moment of flight!

I have to be the first
Not the last!
the present
not the ghostly past!

The fully accentuated utterance
and not the mere breath !
The life you live,
not the regret near death!

Until that....
you see
I'd remain nothing to thee!
An empty space,
a craving chase,
a non existent person ;
with no place
but here!
where words
are dear
near
and never filled with fear !
I can never be
the afterthought
that connects you to me!
but a full-fledged existence
that transcends the distance
and needs no resistance !

Until then...
you see
I'd remain myself!
never an afterthought
forever a mystery! ;)

  1. As usual a great one when it comes to poetry technique and use of word power but when it comes to the meaning of the poem, it is too harsh as being the last it doesn’t necessarily mean the least. In many cases the last becomes the best, he or she could arrive the last moment and was placed at the highest position, it is not the mistake of him that he saw me the last but when he saw me he gave me what I deserve.

    1. why do you think it is harsh!? Why don't you see it as an acknowledgment of one's worth?
The last here doesn't mean that which has been seen or found last! No...
The key word of understanding this poem is "afterthought". It is actually what triggered this whole poem - in a way.
The last here means the last to be thought about! The poem says that the speaker has to be the 1st and main thought on someone's mind and not mere an afterthought or a last choice when all other choices have been exhausted!

      Thank you
